An Agreeable Life

#WOTD: An Agreeable Life

Agreeable, gradevole, agradable, agréable.

"Can two walk together, except they be aagreed?" - Amos 3:3

That passage from Amos 3:3 is always quoted.  In church and in most motivational pitch moments.  You know the guru's of visualization and affirmation.  Positive mind power.

But if you really think about it...that passage can and does work in just the opposite.  For example two thieves decide to break into a home.  They have agreed upon the plan and what is to be done.  They have shared positive affirmations and are walking together to engage in something illegal.   They will rob your home.

But what if one of them changes his/her mind?  The agreed upon plan doesn't go off as once planned.

Francis Bacon once said, "Choose the life that is most useful, and habit will make it the most agreeable."

A friend and I were debating the necessity of a luxury home the other day.  While, her stand was that people shouldn't live that way while other people were starving, my position was different.  My position was how do we know that the people who live that way aren't already building schools, and giving away millions of dollars in charity each year?  We don't.  But many do and so to live in or have a home or room that cost millions is the treat you give yourself for being a good steward and for blessing the lives of others.

She and I are in complete disagreement as to what kind of life we would like to live.  While we quote that passage from Amos often, the folks who will hold you back from your dreams, success and the life you want...may very well be the person sitting on the pew next to you.

Today, know this to be true...if the life you dream of is not supported, encouraged, or agreed upon by those who walk with you....you should be walking and agreeding with some new folks.

Have a great day!
