"Do not underestimate the determination of a quiet woman or man." - Yolanda
One of my favorite authors, Og Mandino once said, "Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough." In some cultures it is quite acceptable to fail because it is seen as learning.
Even in some occupations today it is seen as quite acceptable to build failure into what you do. Companies today build loss into their bottom line as they account for things like theft, or unsold inventory. And those in sports look at failure as something they use as a tool to learn to get better.
But it amazes me that in some communities your failure is used against you to define the person you are. You know, you may have once been part of the community decision making process or you were influential in helping shape things in your field of endeavor. Some people look on failure as a defining moment or a failed determinator of your personhood.
But, when you stop an look at determination and failure you will see that failed determination is what makes you great. It's what makes a great basketball team, or makes a company like BP rebound, get up and dust themselves off and start again.
It's that thing that says, as they use to say in the Six Million Dollar Man, "We can rebuild him."
Today, know this to be true communities stay down, stay broken because we decide they have failed and the people in them have failed, and we move on to the thriving communities. But, just like the runner who has failed to win the race the first and even second time but finally with determination goes on to win the gold medal, the medal isn't made out of gold really - it's made out of sweat, tears and a whole lot of determination.
Have a great Monday!
