Strategic Foresight

#WOTD: Strategic Foresight

Foresight, previsión, previsione, prévoyance.

“In today's world what we need even more than foresight or hindsight is insight” - Yolanda

Yesterday I took my grandaughter's outside before the rain unleashed its powerful down pour.  While we were outside I watched a catepillar struggling against its cocoon and explained to the four year old how beautiful it would be, once it broke free (all she could say was uggg at the sight of the cocoon).

When the girls went down for their nap, I thought about that butterfly.  It struck me and I wondered if the catepillar really knew it would become a beautiful butterfly.  I watched as it hung on and the rain beat against it with the force of an ocean during a Tsunami.  Yet, it held on against all odds.  I smiled at the thought of how many times I had wanted to let go...almost gave up and then suddenly my life, my world had turned into this beautiful story...like a beautiful butterfly.

Foresight tells us, as President John F. Kennedy once said, "The time to fix the roof, is when the sun is shining."  Yet, how often do we know that there is a leak unless it starts raining.  Our lives can be like that.  We don't know they are broken until hell starts rearing its ugly head.

Today, I know this to be true; like the catepillar's cocoon, which protects it from the trials and tribulations of it's life...our foresight in knowing that 'All is Well' and that life is ordered by the Creator, helps us understand that though battered and bruised we will come through with a bit of pain, no stain and emerge as beautiful as the butterfly.

Happy Monday morning!
