#WOTD: Unlimited Potential.

Unlimited, illimité, illimitato, ilimitado.

"Knowledge is not unlimited power, it is unlimited greatness." - Yolanda

Barbara Bush once said, "If human beings are perceived as potentials rather than problems, as possessing strengths instead of weaknesses, as unlimited rather than dull and unresponsive, then they thrive and grow to their capabilities."

When a baby experiences the phenomenon known as 'failure to thrive', it means the baby, become disinterested in their surroundings, avoids eye contact, becomes irritable.  While the debate is still out on what actually causes failure to thrive...one common theme seems to be social contact...or a lack of that from parents or parent for a variety of reasons.

But, can failure to thrive happen to us as we get older?

This past weeks tragedy in Ohio and tragedies like it that happen far too often and even suicides and attempted suicides are witness that 'failure to thrive' is not something common to just infants.

While as we grow we are expected to carry a stiff upper lip, and pull ourselves up by our boot straps - along the way people need love, support and encouragement.  When you understand that the person sitting in the seat next to you on the subway ride in to to work this morning, or the girl handing you your reciept at the gas station, or the young man who just handed you your cup of coffee at Starbucks, or the receptionist at your office on the first floor (while you ride the elevator to the tenth) of your office building - all could be suffering from failure to thrive...a kind word, a smile, an acknowledgement of their potential, or to perceive their strengths rather than weaknessess...just might be the one act in the day that could save a life and grow their capabilities.

Today, know this to be true; knowledge is power but your greatness comes about when you recognize the human capacity for unlimited potential to do good.

Have a Thoughtful Thursday!
