#WOTD: Drifting on a Memory...

Memory, memoria, mémoire.

"Memory... is the diary that we all carry about with us." - Oscar Wilde

Isn't it amazing that only humans have memory.  Animals have behavioral rote learning.  But man has memory.  Memory of love, loss and more.

Memory can remind us of happy or sad places.  But in any moment we can choose to remember only the joyous times.  As Audrey Hepburn once said, "Happiness is good health and a short memory."

As I watch the race for the GOP nomination I am struck by one candidate who takes us back to a time of "Father Knows Best" a very popular show in American history.  The problem with going back to the memories of when America was 'this great nation', is that the past is so often inadequate to the present.  While it may seem a harmonious conception of our memory - its not a collective memory for everyone.

During the time of 'Father knows best'...races of people were still segregated, drank from seperate water fountains, attended seperate schools.  Pay for women was unequal, and many were still hiding who they were in a closet for fear of rejection of the worst kind.

I think God gave us memory so that we can see love when there is pain, peace when there is war, hope when there is despair and a brighter future when there has been an unjust past.

Today, know this to be true; those things, places and people locked in our memory are placed there to give life to our present.

Hoping your Tuesday is a truly a great one!
